Once again, my family and I had an AMAZING meal at Amy’s. Samy was, as always, a warm and attentive host, and Amy, a magician in the kitchen. Our waitresses made sure our water was never below half full, and each dish was a masterpiece upon itself.

I can only believe the one and two star reviews are from those who’s tastes and manners are completely uncultured. Cost? Each item is hand made! Amy’s may be a few dollars more than you are used to paying for mass prepared  bread and food – but this stuff is all made to order – and you can tell! (or maybe you can’t – so save that extra $1-$2 per dish and  go support some mass eating establishment like Olive Garden vs. a locally owned business)

The portions are PERFECT. Like most fine food, it is not to be gobbled down in oversized tasteless amounts , while you get pushed out the door so they can seat as many tables per night as possible. How can you not savor each bite the perfect Lobster Ravioli or pizza with carmelized onions, pear, and blue cheese? Even the simple dish of olives ($3) was warmed and seasoned to perfection. And the owners actually let you sit as long as possible and make you feel welcome to do so! (Again, if you are used to most American chain restaurants that aim to have you in and out in under half an hour this may feel odd – don’t let it! This is how restaurants should be!)

Come here with people you WANT to take time to talk to, ready to take time to enjoy each bite of what you are eating. This is a wonderful dining experience that is reasonably priced, yet you’ll feel like you took a trip to Europe to dine at a local cafe. (so think of all the money you save on airfare!)

It is our family’s favorite restaurant in town. Try it and it will most likely be yours too! And no, (in response to one reviewer) we are not family. They just make us feel that way every time we walk in the door.

I’m crazy about Amy’s!  I went there for the first time a few months ago and now I can’t get enough! Their pizza is my favorite in town and their pastas are delicious! My favorites are the creamy pesto raviolis with spinach and pancetta, and the fettuccine Alfredo with chicken and mushrooms. The best Alfredo sauce I’ve ever had! They recently added crepes to their menu and they all sound amazing! I’ve had the almond one for dessert and oh my it was heaven in every bite! The owners are great and you can tell Amy is very passionate about her food. Every dessert is to die for so make sure you save room! The key lime pie is my fave! I eat out a lot and at very nice restaurants but Amy’s wins the prize as my favorite! Besides Amy’s food being incredible, it’s the owners that make it so fun to come back every time!

    Update – 10/3/2012

Amy’s is delicious. I love their flatbread appetizer with jalapeño dipping sauce. I always get a pizza, the fig is yummy or the asparagus. The pizza dough is yummy….I love the pasta rustica it is sweet and spicy at the same time. I always order lemon merengue for dessert. It is so pretty and has sparkles. The owners are fun and great characters when you get to know them. Amy is an awesome chef and is very detailed in her food. She loves to meet customers and make sure everyone likes their dish. Check out Amy’s!!!  You will be hooked like I am.

9/18/2012I love Amy’s!  The atmosphere is so quaint and italian chic, Sammy (the owner) is full of personality, so get ready for some good entertainment.  Amy is the sweetest chef, she cares about her food quality and designer desserts.  My favorite is the pasta rustica, a signature pasta dish, the Fig pizza is also delicious, I had the crepes for dessert and I finished the entire plate!!! YUM YUM  I go to Amy’s as much as I can, I would recommend for a girls night out, a date night with your special someone, or a fun place to have dinner and drinks with friends.

Best hummus /flat bread combo in town.  It’s simply perfect, just like the french press coffee.  Such well done classics are accented with imaginative pastries and pizza toppings.  We’ve learned from talking up one half of the ABC team, Sammy, while his wife Amy is hard at work in the kitchen, that most everything is made in house.  Including the fig jam and red pepper marmalade that have become an unexpected pizza topping obsession for my girlfriend and I.  Even though i was scared of the mango bbq chicken pizza, she talked me into it, and I didn’t regret it. Passionate, imaginative flavors and service, we want to go back every week.

Amy’s rocks.  The food is absolutely delicous.  The Italian flat bread is the best I’ve ever had.  Pizza, pasta, salads, drinks.  All terrific.  And the desserts . . . holy cow I thought I’d died and gone to heaven when I tried the german chocolate cake.  Owners are friendly, service is good, food is outstanding. What are you waiting for?  Go eat at Amy’s.

There is food, good food, and great food. And then there is the miracle that is Amy’s.
My wife had only sampled her made from scratch, to die for desserts. So we came for dinner, and the rest, as they say, is history. We ordered a pizza italiano, a classic combination of sausage pepperoni, and fresh cilantro on the best thin crust you can imagine. Only better. Full disclosure: I am not normally a fan of thin crust, but this made me a believer. And then, wait for it, we also ordered a second 10 ” pizza that raised the bar where few, if any, will reach. Picture Marco Polo coming back from China  - that is the Duck Pizza, a magical mix of duck proscuitto, gouda, mozzerela,
hoisin sauce, cilantro, and peanuts. I had them hold the peanuts, and it was perfect.
The peanuts move the pizza from China to Thailand.
We had a pot of pomegranite tea with a huge square of creme brulee – no fruit thank you, the classic, and it did not disappoint. A side of caramel sauce was provided graciously, and defied physics by actually making it even better.
This is a place you go to, and then come back until you have tried everything – because you know it will all be great.
The ambience is charming, the service elegant, and while not inexpensive, it is a fantastic value and a great bargain given the completely homemade, as in from scratch, flavor that you can taste in every dish.

Word of warning: this place is so good it may well ruin you for other restaurants.

My only beef? Sometimes they close earlier than their posted hours, so you may want to call ahead to be sure and let them know you’re coming. It took us three tries before they were open during their posted hours. And even then, our host mentioned he was about to close – three hours early on a Friday night.  Several other parties came after we were seated. As great as the food is, there should be a line out the door.

I only write reviews on two occasions — when an experience is so awful I must spare others from a disaster, or two, when an experience is so unbelievable that I think the establishment deserves the good press!

After spending some time with my mom and sisters on a Saturday afternoon, we were heading toward our regular lunch spot (Pita Jungle) next door to ABC Bistro. I, being the adventurous one I am, convinced the rest of my family to try out this cute little bistro, since we always pass by it while running errands in that shopping plaza.

I AM SO GLAD I DID. This place is legit! I am so happy I stopped in there today as my family and all of my friends will now be regulars at this establishment.

The prices are incredibly reasonable, especially for the quality of food and service that you receive. I’m a huge supporter of the finer foods, rather than commercialized venues, and this place reminds me of those exceptional and warm cafes on nearly every street in Paris.

ABC Bistro is fine European dining and I am SO happy I found this place!! I can hear my sister raving to my father about as I’m typing this.

As for the food, if I could give it more than 5 stars, I would.

For appetizers, order the Italian bread ($4!!!!!!) for a pizza-size amount of bread. We also ordered the artichoke dip and the fig crostini, the latter of which is phenomenal.

For lunch, we all ordered paninis and pastas — the portions are great size. We all finished our plates and were perfectly full. For $9, a panini and salad that is tasty and filling in a sophisticated European restaurant setting is more than reasonable.

Now for the best part, the desserts, my god, the desserts! We each ordered one — each delicious and generously sized that we had to take the rest home. Better than commercialized Cheesecake Factory garbage.

The bistro also has a full bar and a great happy hour menu. I ordered the Raspberry Champagne martini ($6) and it was quite strong, delicious, and underpriced.

The atmosphere is gorgeous, I was admiring the chandeliers, furniture, decor throughout our entire (extended) meal — and the owners are kind and friendly people.

After reading all of the negative reviews on here, I am honestly shocked by anyone who had a less than 5-star experience. Those of you who didn’t have a good experience obviously have no taste when it comes to fine European dining and might have better luck heading over to California Pizza Kitchen or the Macaroni Grill. You will only find the best ingredients and food quality at this establishment.

As for a few people’s trouble with “no free bread,” the Italian bread appetizer is $4… if you can’t manage to spend that, there’s an Arby’s across the street. Additionally, do not go to a classy bistro such as this and share an entree with another individual. It won’t work in European cafes, and it won’t work at ABC Bistro either. It’s also very tasteless and offensive to the restaurant itself. In Europe, this behavior is considered frugal and offensive — so in the same manner, do not do this in a proclaimed European dining facility.

Samy and Amy, you two are great! Don’t mind any of the negative reviews on this site — those people probably wouldn’t have ordered more than one appetizer to split anyway. I’ll certainly be back with all my family and all my friends.

Bon appetit!

“Wow, what a great little spot! The food was fantastic and the service very friendly. The husband (host) and wife (chef Amy) both came by our table. This was my Grandmother’s 92nd birthday and they made it very special. And the desserts?! As beautiful and sparkly as they were delicious. Don’t miss this neighborhood gem!”

We had another awesome meal tonight. Capese salad, hardly average…spinach, sun dried maters and a little pesto added to the obvious and chicken scalopini w/spinach pasta. Shared the outrageous 3 tiered choc mouse … All perfect fare with the prickly pear margs.

Had dinner there again yesterday and it was as wonderful as our previous times. The Fig Prosciutto, Pear pizza was amazing. They have a special salad with a Citrus Honey dressing that I love as it isn’t too oily. Added to the mix we had Champagne and came away raving. Check it out and you’ll be telling your friends about this gem. There aren”t enough restaurants that have this quality at such a reasonable price.

Scottsdale (and the surrounding areas) offer some of the most diverse dining choices available in the country, making it highly competitive. Many of your options are corporate-owned restaurants with various kinds of foods and style, many of which are impeccably top-notch, and there are some old stand-bys in this valley that are always worth the trek. But every now and again, often in the most unexpected of places, you will stumble across a family-owned and operated little gem that is truly exceptional; Amy’s Baking Company is such a place.

Located next to a movie theater in a strip mall on Shea (just off Scottsdale Rd., east side), Amy’s on the inside has the look and feel of a casual-but-elegant little bistro you might find in Manhattan, or Paris. If Samy, the ebullient co-owner of the husband-and-wife team, doesn’t greet you like family when you first walk in, you will notice a beautiful display case, filled with exquisite homemade desserts, for which you will definitely want to save room (or take to go).

I have tried numerous items, from their unique and delicious homemade pizza, to hand-made raviolis in a light and tasty cream sauce. Everything I’ve had is blue ribbon caliber.

Now, if you are looking for inexpensive, or fast food, this is not a good choice for you. But if you prefer quality over quantity, value over price, and food made, presented, and served by people who demonstrably love their business, then Amy’s Baking Company is a must!

Amy’s is good for everything from a romantic dinner for two, or groups of people looking for a more European-style dining experience, or as a place for a relaxing pressed coffee and a delectable dessert (and/or some light fare) after a movie.

Ask for Samy and tell him Jonathan sent you; he and I had a nice conversation the first time I went , and the next time(s) I went it was as though we’d known each other for 25 years! It is clear the man loves his trade, and his wife, the eponymous “Amy” is terrific as well — and her love of the business always shines through in the food, if she happens to be stuck in the kitchen and can’t make the rounds.

Stopped in this little place for a quick bite before a movie on Sunday and had the best Albacore tuna sandwich ever in history. I could not believe how good it was. The tuna had chunks of green apples and sweet toasted pecans. Sandwich was served on cinnamon raisin bread which I normally would not have ordered, but it was perfect.

After the movie went back there for wine because it was only $4.00 a glass on Sunday afternoons. What a wonderful afternoon with friends. Although I did not eat pastries, I checked them out in the case and they were beautiful, will definitely go back and buy for little gifts when I visit the Grandmas. Small and perfect desserts.

Amy and Samy are two of the nicest most welcoming people you’ll meet when dining out and I’ve done my share of dining out. When we arrive Samy always welcomes us like family and I feel like we are eating at home. Amy is usually in the kitchen busy cooking and baking but always finds time to come out and say hello and bring my mom a special treat.

The food in phenomenal, always fresh and of the highest quality. My favorite dish is the Vanilla Bean Coconut Shrimp salad and I love, love, love the key lime pie! I’ve ordered cakes and pies for special occasions and have never been disappointed.

Thanks to Yelp reviewers we learned about Amy’s Baking Company in advance of our visit to Scottsdale and had it on our “radar”.

We walked into Amy’s on a Tuesday evening and the first thing that greeted us was the wonderful aroma!  If there were stars assigned for aroma, this place would get five.  The ambiance was charming too and not nearly as formal as we thought it might be from the images on the web site.  It was almost as if the space said “welcome”.

The second greeting was from Sammy – host, owner, husband of Amy.  We said we were going to decide on take out to take back to the unit at the resort where we were staying as we were pooped after a very long day of exploring beautiful Scottsdale.  We appreciated that Sammy offered us a seat at one of the tables and glasses of water while we waited on our selection and talked with another customer who offered us her tips on seeing the sights in Scottsdale.  And it turns out this delightful young woman is a regular customer of Amy’s because she loves the food.  Based on our experience, we can see why that is so!

Our take out selection was a pizza topped with fig conserve, prosciutto, gorgonzola, fresh rosemary and toasted walnuts.  We have eaten a lot of pizza in our lives, one of us believes that pizza would be the right choice for a last meal, and as folks who consider pizza art form we say Amy makes a perfect pizza!  Starting with the crust, the most important element,  which was just right for chewiness and doneness.  Ending with a wonderful combination of flavors created by the generously portioned toppings.  It was also a beautiful pizza, photograph worthy, as Amy herself brought it out with the lid of the ‘to go’ box open to present it.

There were many things on the menu that sounded delicious to us, in particular the butternut squash ravioli and the grilled pear salad, so we’ll return to Amy’s for dinner during our next visit to Scottsdale.  Also, we’ll be sure to include take out from the array of wonderful looking items in the bakery case.

We were very surprised to find on our visit that there was but one customer at a table in Amy’s at a little after 6:00 on a weekday evening.  This is a great little place, with not only pride of ownership evident, but with top notch food.  Amy’s Baking Company ought to be full of happy customers.  If you are visiting Scottsdale, Amy’s might be a little difficult to find as it is tucked into a strip mall that also houses a movie theater and other businesses,  but it is worth making the effort to find it!  We recommend Amy’s Baking Company.

There are many reasons why one might go to a new restaurant…a friend suggested it, you read a good review, it opened on your path from here to there. But the only reason one would return is the food, and the food is what brought us back for a second time.

Having been bowled over by the butternut squash ravioli the first time, I tried the lasagna bolognese. For an entree big enough to satisfy even a starving man, this was the lightest pasta dish I’ve ever had…handmade pasta as delicate as a cloud, with a tomato sauce more subtle than one could imagine – a perfect dish.

My wife had the lobster ravioli, a dish so delecate, so full of sea flavor it made her eyes roll back in her head.

If your favorite Italian restaurant is Olive Garden, you’re in for an incredible experience. If you crave spectacular food in a warm, friendly setting, this is the place you want to go.

And I haven’t even mentioned the desserts. Come hungry and ready to be blown away.

This place is incredible!  The staff was very friendly, and Sammy the owner came over to talk to us for a while.  You can tell how much he cares about the food and the customer’s experience; he even suggested that I get half of the Monte Cristo sandwich since it was a little more expensive.  He reduced the price down for half of the sandwich without me even asking.  $40 including tip for dinner for two and dessert.  Overall one of the best places I have eaten at in recent memory.

Absolute most amazing hidden jewel of a restaurant.  I dine out often and would highly recommend this restaurant.  Not anything ordinary here.  The desserts are unmatched and the owners are absolutely the most sincere hard working, passionate, wonderful people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting!  Amy makes all of her creations from scratch, by hand and it shows in the presentation and flavors of everything she masters.  Seriously, this place is not to be mistaken for the average…not by a long shot!!!  Treat yourself…save room for dessert…thank me later!!!

Just had Brunch with my family at Amy’s Baking Company.  The service was welcoming, efficient and timely.  Our girls ordered the pasta and devoured it.  The owner happily accommodated my husband’s vegan diet and prepared a special, delicious sandwich with yummy fries.  But the highlight of our meal was the Croque Madame.  It was outrageous!  My husband told me my eyes rolled back in my head when I took the first bite.
Can’t wait to go back.

Sugar Shock: The Haute 5 Desserts in Phoenix

Posted By Marie Look on September 2nd, 2010

It could very well be impossible to narrow the best sweets in this city down to the top five, but we’ve tried. Here are five absolute musts everyone should try when making the dessert rounds in the Valley.

Brandied Chocolate Cherry Cupcakes at Amy’s Baking Company

Amy’s Baking Company is a patisserie and full-service European bistro and bar, and the housemade desserts there are to die for. After dinner, order a half dozen of these cupcakes to go so that you and your friends will have something to nibble on wherever the night takes you. Made with moist devil’s food cake chocolate, brandy and a super dark chocolate ganache, then topped with chocolate-dipped strawberries, they’re sinfully delicious.

Amy’s Baking Company is located at 7366 E. Shea Blvd., Suite 112, in Scottsdale  480.607.0677

It is like being in Europe all over again!

I reserve reviews for the best of the best and the worst of the worst, and this is by far the best italian food I have had in the state of Arizona.

I grew up in Germany, and truly miss eating in Europe. Food is an experience, and you do not eat to just shovel a tasteless food into your mouth and go about your day. In many cases, if you eat out it is an activity that takes an evening. You sit and talk and eat in courses and share food for the whole table, and in many cases it is an adult activity not meant for young children.

Amy’s Baking Company is like being in Europe again. The atmosphere is one where a group of people can come in and share a meal and long conversation. The owners came to our table, they were friendly, charming and truly wanted to know that we had enjoyed our meal. They visited for a good amount of time and we enjoyed talking with them. I hope we can see them again soon!

The food is all made from scratch, and is not made sparingly. I don’t mean that the portions are Bucca di Beppo sizes, but rather that you taste the full flavor of what the descriptions state you are eating. When there is cilantro in your salad, you taste it, you smell it, and it creates a whole mesh of flavors for you to enjoy when combined with the rest of your food.

Everything we got we loved, and couldn’t get enough of!

My French Onion Soup was amazing; I could drink the broth all day (despite the fact that French Onion Soup is filled with sodium). It was not too salty, but also not too bland. The bread was done accurately and the cheese was just right.

We got the Vanilla Bean Coconut Shrimp Salad– It was a party in my mouth! The Cilantro tied the salad together, giving my salad a flavoring unlike many I have experienced; the mango was perfectly ripe and cooked in a way I have never had before; the macadamia nuts added the perfect amount of crunch; and the avocado was the perfect creamy goodness!!! As for the shrimp, it was delicious! I could taste the coconut, but under that, I could actually taste the vanilla bean, and I wanted to cry it was soooo good.

We got the Spaghetti! I liked it a lot. It is not a sweet presentation though. It was very much a European spaghetti! My mother loved it, and the portion was perfect. It was accented with just the right amount of basil.

Lastly we got the Four Cheese Pizza. One word— YES!!! It is not anything like what you would get in any American style restaurant, instead it is an oven baked bread with the perfect combination of tomatoes, cheese and ricotta, with fresh herbs. It is very obviously handmade. It is not served on a perfectly round crust, it is made to order on the spot in the restaurant, and sooo good. I loved it!

The average menu price is around $16 per entree, but it is well worth it! We had plenty of leftovers, but did not need to be rolled out of the restaurant in wheelbarrows because we overate.

As a family, this restaurant is quite a ways away from us (around 30 miles), but already, we are making plans to go back. We want to try every salad on the menu, and next time we would like to save room for dessert.

All in all, an amazing experience and a touch of the unexpected in a city overwhelmed with Mexican themed cooking.

We eat out often and both entertain out-of-town guests and business guests regularly. North Scottsdale has endless high end 5 star restaurants, which we frequent and love, but we often are looking for a fun, local dine where we can relax, have a nice meal without spending several hundred dollars on dinner.

My wife and I stumbled onto ABC one evening when the place we wanted to eat was packed and had a line.  We walked by ABC and it was not too busy, not a great sign, but we took a chance.  Loved it and my wife is picky!!!  The owner was charming and attentive, the food was unusual, creative, high quality and reasonably priced.  As expected for a bakery the pastries are fantastic (we recently spend 2 week in France and Italy; we take our meals and desserts seriously )

I had business associates in town last week, after a full day of meetings they suggested Dominic’s Steakhouse in Scottsdale Quarter (also worth checking out).  I suggested we try something different and we went to ABC. Good move, everyone had a great meal, great time, we invited the owner to sit with us for a drink and the bill was about 1/3 of what we would have spent at Dominic’s.  Make sure to get the flat bread appetizer with a hummus and an olive spread.

ABC is on the top of our list for local dines, only complaint is they are not open early for breakfast.  The owner says that is in the works but as of this week they still open at either 10AM or 11AM.

The desserts are unbelievably delicious. The pizza is nothing like pizza, it melts in your mouth. The hospitality is second to none. The prices are extremely reasonable. You have to find the place tucked in the back corner of a shopping mall but once you get there you will be glad you did find it.

This is honestly my favorite place to take my wife for “Date Night.”  We have been eating here about every month for the year and a half we have lived in the Scottsdale area.  From the first time we went, they remembered our names, where we like to sit, what we do, our dog’s name.  It feels like we are eating with family when we dine here.

When I was between jobs, they gave us our meal for free and even gave us complimentary Champaigne.  They have asked us repeatedly to stop tipping as they feel like we are family as well.

We love discussing Amy’s artistry as both a chef and a baker.  She shows so much passion in what she does, you can’t help but taste it in everything.

Samy greats my wife and I with a hug each time we walk in.  He loves chatting with us and makes us feel like we could sit and enjoy his “home” all night long.

We have tried just about everything on the menu and in the desert case and we have loved every thing.  The Pasta Rustica is beyond amazing (spicy!!!)

I always suggest Amy’s Baking Company to everyone I meet.  If you ever befriend my wife and I, chances are that we will treat you to dinner there as that is where we take everyone!

This is really a great place. Nice, quite and the food is really good. I have come there with my children for many years. We have had allot of good memories and family time prior to catching a movie. The owners are engaging and I used that as an opportunity when my kids were small to get them to speak up, order and ask questions. It’s next to a harkins movie theater in a very safe area in Scottsdale so we usually go there prior to a movie.

A dessert case that will blow your mind. My daughter and I come here as a special treat. Love this place.  Amy is a passionate artist at heart, and this is displayed in her gourmet creations.

We eat here at least 2-3 times a month!  One of those special little hideaways that’s perfect for date night or a night out with the family!  Every thing is made to order so if you want fast foot, go to pita jungle or Burger King!  This is fresh, organic, and delicious, made-to-order food!  Samy and Amy are always so warm and welcoming!  The beautiful pastries and desserts are scrumptious and are hand-crafted by Amy herself!  We have our favorites which include the pizza bread, salads, sandwiches, and pastas!  If you’re planning on going to a movie, do that first, so that you can linger over the wonderful wines and food and make it a special evening!
The decor and ambience is wonderful and we are always treated like part of Samy and Amy’s family!  Anyone headed to Scottsdale needs to make ABC/Amy’s a must!
